Cineol

The monoterpene 1,8-cineole (eucalyptol) is the main component of eucalyptus species. The essential oils (see under Eucalypti aetheroleum) are mainly obtained by steam distillation from the leaves and twigs of eucalyptus . Oils containing cineole are used as an inhalant, as an antimicrobial therapeutic agent (1% oil) or as a balm for colds.

In the S2 guideline of the German Society for Pneumology and Respiratory Medicine for the diagnosis and treatment of adult patients with coughs, cineole is listed as a phytotherapeutic agent for the indication acute bronchitis.

Quality is defined in the European Pharmacopoeia (Ph. Eur.). For monographs see Eucalypti aetheroleum.

Cineole has antiseptic, antifungal (as 1% oil), mucolytic, expectorant, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, bronchodilator, antiviral, antimicrobial and antiparasitic effects.

Soledum® addicur, identical in composition to Soledum® capsules forte 200 mg, is explicitly approved for the additional therapy of COPD.

Cholelithiasis, nephrolithiasis.

Induction of a xenobiotic-degrading enzyme system in the liver with possible attenuation of the effect of other drugs

External: ^Soledum®, ^{Transpulmin®}.

Systemic:

^Soledum® (100 mg cineole/capsule) or ^Soledum® forte (200 mg cineole/capsule)

Dosage: Adults: 3 x 2 Soledum capsules, i.e. 200 mg; alternatively 3 x 1 Soledum forte capsule.

For asthma with steroid requirement: significant reduction of steroid requirement Dosage 3 x 200 mg / day.

Children: 2-12 years, 3 x 1 Soledum Kps Kps a 100 mg Cineol.
