scleroderma circumscripts (plaque-type). large,circumcircumscribed, red-violet, smooth plaque with centrally embedded yellow-white indurations. the surface here is shiny like parchment. there is a feeling of tension. no pain. DD: scleroderma-like borreliosis!
Striae cutis distensae. older, whitish, differently long and wide, jagged, parallel or diverging atrophic stripes with slightly sunken and thinned skin.
Striae cutis distensae. 13-year-old girl with striped red spots on upper arms, thighs and buttocks, rapidly growing within the last six months. linear, horizontally oriented, striped red spots. on delicate palpation a slight depression of the surface can be detected. thus flat, striped atrophy is present.

Ice pick scar. reflected light microscopy: image of the zygomatic arch region of a 23-year-old woman. triangular, scarred depression of the skin with an acute angle pointing downwards ("ice pick sign").
acrodermatitis chronica arophicans. early stage of acrodermatitis chronica atrophicans with still (clearly) recognizable border of the erythema chronicum migrans (proximal thigh). the lower half of the lower leg is clearly more strongly reddened, flat doughy indurated. no painfulness. no painful lymphadenitis. still (!) no atrophy of the surface epithelium detectable.
lipoatrophy, localized after glucocorticosteroid injections. general view: 2.5 x 3.0 cm large, circular area with whitish atrophy of the skin and telangiectasia. clear loss of substance of subcutis and fatty tissue. distal of the atrophy a slight swelling in the sense of a lymphatic congestion is visible. the skin changes developed in the course of the last two years, after a single steroid injection into the left knee because of knee problems.
Atrophodermia vermiculata: 10-year-old girl with symmetrically appearing, smallest, reticulated follicular scars on both sides as well as some dilated follicular keratoses (see following figure); pronounced keratosis pilaris (rubra) on the extensor sides of the extremities and on the buttocks.

Acrodermatitis chronica atrophicans. clearly visible, flabby skin atrophy and edematous redness on the right foot in a serologically proven infection with borrelia. the comparison to the left leg shows the clear difference. the patient spends several months in the black forest every summer.
