zoster in the trigeminal region. multiple, acute, half-sided localized vesicles and roundish erosions with short life span, localized on the tongue and oral mucosa. fibrin-covered erosions, white plaques and mucous membrane fragments. pain in the oral cavity and severe toothache, sometimes preceding the symptoms.
Lymphangioma circumscriptum. 20 years old woman. multiple, chronically stationary, since 5 years increasing, glassy translucent, pinhead-sized or larger, often cluster-like aggregated, asymmetrically configured, small cysts (frogspawn-like appearance).
Behçet, M.. Since 8 days persistent, approx. 0.4 x 0.5 cm large, aphthous, whitish, strongly painful ulcer on the right tongue side of a 42-year-old woman.
Candida sepsis: Oral mucosa of the previously described patient: Flat, thick, easily scraped off, whitish coating (base underneath slightly bleeding). Masses of C. albicans from oral mucosa swabs were culturally proven.
candidiasis, chronic mucocutaneous (CMC). pronounced doughy and persistent swelling of the lips with several chronic rhagades in Crohn's disease. whitish, flat deposits on the base and back of the tongue. pearlèche on both sides.
Candidosis of the oral mucosa. multiple, on the hard and soft palate localized, single standing, partly confluent, white to grey-white plaques which can be easily scraped off. sometimes burning of the tongue
Kaposi's sarcoma: Multiple, chronically stationary, asymptomatic, non-painful, bluish-violet colored spots, plaques and flatter nodes on the back of the tongue.
exfoliatio areata linguae. numerous, confluent, roundish "plaque free" areas. distinct burning sensation with spicy food or fruity drinks. characteristic for the clinical picture are the whitish swollen, raised border areas, which are clearly visible at the lateral edges of the tongue... in the middle area of the tongue normal plaque.
AL-amyloidosis in smoldering myeloma: In the 77-year-old patient, this macroglossia with lingua plicata, which has been steadily increasing for 1 year, is clinically present with recurrent flat ecchymoses of the periorbital region, corresponding to a hematoma of the eyeglasses. Further purple skin changes are present in the neck and retroauricularly. The bone marrow biopsy revealed smoldering myeloma (degree of infiltration of plasma cells at 15%).
Habituitary aphthae: painful flat ulcers in the vestibulum oris covered with fibrin. 35-year-old patient has been suffering from aphthae for over 20 years, occurring in 4-6 week cycles. No underlying diseases known.
Bdnar's aphthae: large, very painful flat ulcers in the vestibulum oris covered with fibrin. 77-year-old patient has been suffering from these aphthae continuously for more than 1 year.
