Trichofolliculoma D23.L

Benign, slowly growing, epithelial tumor of the hair follicles. S.a. Adnexal tumors with hair follicle differentiation.

Up to 1 cm large, usually skin-coloured, solid tumour with a central porus from which individual hairs can protrude. The clinic is uncharacteristic. Mostly histological random finding.

One or more dilated hair follicles, which are surrounded by smaller follicles in a radial pattern. The central, mostly dilated hair follicles contain horn material or vellus hairs. Occasionally also sebaceous gland lobules. Strong, cell-rich fibrous stroma. The " sebaceous gland hamartoma, follicular, cystic" described by Kimura is a disease of the sebaceous gland. The "sebaceous trichofolliculoma" described by Kimura is regarded by various authors as a variant of the trichofolliculoma, as is the "sebaceous trichofolliculoma" described by Plewig, which shows an accentuated differentiation of the sebaceous glands.
