Epidermophyton floccosum. cultivation on selective, modified (cycloheximide, chloramphenicol) cinnamon agar at 25 °C room temperature. culture top: slowly growing (after 3 weeks cultivation approx. 1-2 cm Ø), colonies with firm, yellowish-green to whitish-yellowish or beige-brownish surface. at the beginning of growth tender fluff (air mycelium) and central furrow. with increasing cultural age, the colonies emerge from the agar and take on a raised woolly appearance; sometimes in older cultures, formation of whitish-flaky satellites. the air mycelium throws strong folds; the surface appears sandy.

Epidermophyton floccosum. underside of the culture: yellowish-orange to light brownish colour. irregular radial furrow of the mycelium with central cryptic folds.

Epidermophyton floccosum. microscopy of culture:essential characteristic: no formation of microconidia. abundantly branched hyphae with terminal and lateral macroconidia both singly and in groups standing. club- to flail-shaped macroconidia with usually few chambers and smooth thin-walled rim.
