Roses are characterized by their decorative, differently coloured blossoms, bear thorns and have an unusual fruit, the rose hips. The following rose species are of medicinal importance and are mentioned in pharmacopoeias: the dog rose, Rose canina(rose hip bush), the alpine dog rose, the vinegar rose and the hundred-leaved rose, Rosa centifolia, as well as the Damask rose. The first two because of their rose hips(Rosae pseudo-fructus cum fructibus), the latter because of their petals(Rosae flos) and rose oil.
