Essential oil is obtained by steam distillation from fresh petals of the Damask rose (Rosa x damascena Mill. = Damask rose oil) or the vinegar rose . Rose oil contains 50 to 80 % monoterpenes, predominantly geraniol, nerol, linalool and citronellol.
