Officinal verbena

Verbena officinalis (verbena) belongs to the verbena family and is a perennial herbaceous plant that grows up to 70 cm tall and is widespread throughout most of Europe. Verbena prefers to grow along roadsides, walls or banks. The plant produces small, light pink flowers that appear from June to September. Verbena officinalis is the official parent plant of "Verbenae Herba". The above-ground herbaceous part of the plant used for this purpose is preferably collected in July and August.

The South American counterpart Verbena is also used phytotherapeutically; the European plant has almost fallen into oblivion.
