Blackberry

Rubus fruticosus, also known as blackberry or true blackberry, is a plant species from the globally distributed plant genus Rubus, which belongs to the Rosaceae family (rose family).

Blackberry species are deciduous or evergreen (climbing) plants that grow to heights of between 0.5 and 3 meters. Depending on the species, blackberry species have more or fewer spines, which serve as a climbing aid, and the alternate leaves are divided into petioles and leaf blades. They flower from May to August. When ripe, the fruits are usually blue-black in color and are botanically speaking not berries but aggregate stone fruits. When chewing the berry, you bite on small stones in the fruit, which also contain the blackberry seed. The fruit ripens in August and September, in some cases not until October.

The blackberry leaves, Rubi fructicosi folium, are used phytotherapeutically.

The bromea plant is a parent plant of Rubi fruticosi folium, the blackberry leaves, which have been positively monographed by Commission E.
