In 1918 he received his doctorate in Rostock. 1919-1927 dermatological assistant to Karl Zieler at the University Dermatology Clinic in Würzburg. 1924 habilitation. 1927 appointed head physician at the Dermatology Clinic in Dortmund. 1933, successor to Ernst Wihelm Nathan, appointed head of the Dermatology Clinic in Nuremberg. In 1937 he was appointed to the chair at the University of Königsberg, which he held until 1945.
