Nathan, ernst wilhelm

(¤ 1889, † 1981) Dermatologist, working in Nuremberg, New York Studied medicine in Gießen, Munich and Berlin. After state examination and doctorate in 1913/1914 assistant to Paul Ehrlich in Frankfurt/Main. From 1914 further dermatological training with Karl Herxheimer at the Dermatological Clinic Frankfurt-Sachsenhausen (from 1914 University Hospital). There in 1918 habilitation. In 1922 appointment as full professor. 1923, in succession to Dr. Ernst Epstein, appointment as director of the skin clinic in Nuremberg. His research area was syphilis and its detection methods. In 1933, Nathan was dismissed from his office without a pension due to the racist law "for the restoration of professional office". His successor was Georg Hans Birnbaum. At first Nathan could continue to practice in his apartment as an outpatient. In March 1939 after the withdrawal of the license to practice medicine for all Jewish doctors he emigrated to New York. In 1981 EW Nathan died in New York.
