CD80 is a membrane receptor that is activated by the binding of CD28 or CTLA-4. The activated protein induces T cell proliferation and cytokine production. It is encoded by the gene of the same name located on chromosome 3q13.33.An important paralog of this gene is CD86.

CD80 is involved in costimulatory signaling essential for T lymphocyte activation. T cell proliferation and cytokine production are induced by binding of CD28, binding to CTLA-4 has opposite effects and inhibits T cell activation.

CD80 may act as a receptor for subgroup B adenovirus and may play a role in lupus neuropathy .
