Carbuncle: palm-sized, highly painful inflammatory swelling with lymphadenitis and fever. Inlet: massive emptying of pus after wide and deep incision.
Carbuncle: highly painful, inflammatory, bulging, fluctuating, centrally ulcerated red lump.
Carbuncles. reflected light microscopy (without contact medium): Neighbouring follicular inflammation foci with incipient central melting; severely reddened interfollicular spaces with punctate vascular ectasia (shoulder area).
