BECN1-Gen

Beclin-1 spielt eine wichtige Rolle bei der Tumorgenese und der Neurodegeneration, da es in den autophagischen programmierten Zelltod involviert ist. Ovarialkarzinome mit hochregulierter Autophagie zeigt ein weniger aggressives Verhalten und spricht besser auf Chemotherapie an.

Schizophrenie ist mit niedrigen Spiegeln von Beclin-1 im Hippocampus der Betroffenen assoziiert, was zu einer verminderten Autophagie führt, die wiederum einen erhöhten neuronalen Zelltod zur Folge hat.
