Trichophyton terrestre. culture topside: grown on selective, modified (cycloheximide, chloramphenicol) cinnamon agar at 25 °C room temperature. rapidly and extensively growing white colonies with calcareous or powdery to granular surface, central nodular structure. typical acrid, pungent and spicy smell.

Trichophyton terrestre. microscopy of culture:Here predominant masses of macroconidia: Mostly 4-5 chambers, but more are possible; smooth and thin-walled, elongated or cylindrical shape, tapering at the ends. otherwise strong, septated hyphae are to be found. sometimes spiral hyphae occur (can therefore be confused with T. mentagrophytes). typical 2 (to 3-chambered) intermediate forms. microconidia: Very frequent and numerous, unicellular, elongated form (here below in the picture). only rarely chlamydospores.
