Up to 60 cm high herb of the labiates family: square woody stems, tapered, dark green, slightly hairy leaves with oil glands. Flowering time from July to October, white, pale pink or purple flowers. The fresh or dried flowering herb without roots and stem parts is used mainly as a kitchen spice, also as a tea to promote digestion, against flatulence and to stimulate appetite. The essential oil contains mainly carvacrol.
