Santalum album

The Indian white sandalwood tree is an evergreen tropical tree. The intensely fragrant wood is processed into furniture wood or carved wood. A fragrant essential oil, which is used in the cosmetics industry, is extracted from the heartwood.

Effect of the oil: antimicrobial, fungistatic, therapeutic relevance questionable.

Essential oil: 3-5 %, sesquiterpene alcohols, isomers of santalol, tannins, resin, calcium oxalate; sinapylaldehyde, coniferylaldehyde, syringaaldehyde and vanillin.
