Rheum rhaptonicum

Herbaceous plant, originally native to China, now also cultivated in Europe. Stem plant of Radix Rhei rhaptonicum. The dry extract from the roots of rhaponticrhabarber (Rheum rhaponticum) belongs to the group of phytopharmaceuticals in naturopathy and contains the hydroxystilbenes rhaponticin (fluoresces blue in UV light), rhapontigenin, deoxyrhapontigenin, deoxyrhaponticin as well as chrosophanic acid, oxalic acid and tanning agents (catechin). The medicinal drug used is the dried roots of rhaponticrhabarber (Rheum rhaponticum), Rhei rhapontici radix.

Cosmetics: Rheum rhaponticum root extracts are used in cosmetic formulations as reaction products with palmitic acid under the INCI designation: Palmitoyl rheum rhaponticum root extract as antioxidants.
