Ratanhia is a plant of the genus Krameria from the family Krameriaceae, native to Bolivia and Peru. The plant reaches heights of growth from 20 to 100 cm. Ratanhia has small leaves about 1 cm long. Its flowers are reddish-purple. The root system is pronounced and strong (about 5 to 10 cm thick).
Ratanhia is the parent plant of Ratanhiae radix, the officinal drug (positive monograph of Commission E), which is often used as an astringent tincture mixed with myrrh tincture.
