Paprika hot pepper

Hot pepper, also called Capsicum frutescens, is a plant species from the genus Capsicum (paprika) within the nightshade family.

Capsicum frutescens species grow as small shrubs with growth heights of up to 2 m. They always have upright flowers and fruits standing upright on the plant. The fruits usually ripen more slowly than other cultivated species of the genus, ripe fruits fall off easily and are usually red in colour.

Capsicum frutescens is the parent plant of Capsici fructus acer, a drug which has been positively monographed by several commissions, including Commission E.
