Perennial, very hardy, comopolitan (grows throughout Europe, North America and North Asia) plant of medium height (10-40 cm) from the sweet grass family (Poaceae). Flowering time: May to June. Grows on sandy dry soils, fields, fallow land, roadsides. High allergenic potency of the pollen. Pollen size: 20-30 µm. The major allergen is the protein Cyn d 1 a beta-expansin. The cross-allergies with other grass pollen of the Chlorideae subgroup are based on a reactivity against CCDs.
