Widespread in temperate and subtropical regions, originally from Central America fast-growing plant belonging to the nightshade family (Solanaceae) - poisonous plant! All parts of the plant are very poisonous!
The name is given by the spiny fruits of the plant, which grows to a height of approx. 1.2 m. The flowers are trompe-like, white and up to 10 cm in size. Flowering time June to October.
Today obsolete, in the past a tincture of datura seeds or leaves was used for asthma drops or whooping cough, also as an incense or cigarettes against asthma.
Phytopharmacologically used the stalked dried leaves up to 20 cm long (Stramonium leaves - Stramonii folium).
