Glycosidic anthrone derivative (1,8-dihydroxy-10-D-glucopyranosyl-9-anthrone), laxative main active ingredient of aloe. Aloin is soluble in water, ethanol and sparingly soluble in ether.
The laxative effect of aloin is used medicinally for constipation (also veterinary). The antiangiogenic and cytotoxic activities cause an antitumor effect. This also results in the effect locally in psoriasis to reduce the increased epithelial proliferation.
