Wt1 Gene

WT1 is an acronym for "Wilms tumor protein1". The coding gene (Wilms tumor suppressor gene , WT1) is located in humans on band 13 of the short arm of chromosome 11. Mutations in the WT1 gene cause Wilms tumors.

Wilms tumor protein (WT) functions as a transcription factor that controls the activity of other genes. It has both activating and suppressing effects.

WTP1 is expressed mainly in renal epithelia and in part of the hematopoietic cells.

The antibody against WT1 protein marks numerous tumors: neurofibroma, mesothelioma, glomus tumor, serous ovarian carcinoma, desmoplastic melanoma.
