Trofosfamide

Trofosamide, an orally administered nitrogen-lost derivative belongs to the cytostatic alkylancias. Trofosfamide introduces alkyl groups into the DNA, thereby rendering the genetic material unreadable and preventing the further division of tumour cells. The effect is limited to rapidly proliferating cells.

Together with ifosfamide , the pharmaceutical is a cyclophosphamide analogue and is bioactivated and eliminated in a similar way. The mean half-life is about 1.0 h.

Trofosamide and ifosfamide have the same spectrum of action and side effects as cyclophosphamide. Trofosfamide is used as a cytostatic drug for a number of malignant tumours. Its use is usually in combination with other cytostatic drugs.
