DefinitionThis section has been translated automatically.

Tg-AK are antibodies against thyroglobulin, a glycoprotein produced by thyroid cells. Tg is the synthesis and storage site for the thyroid hormones T3 and T4 (thyroxine). After proteolysis of thyroglobulin, the thyroid hormones are released into the blood. They are bound to transport proteins in the circulating blood, such as TGB = thyroxine-binding hormone, TBPA = thyroxine-binding prealbumin =transthyretin. The ratio of free to protein-bound hormone = <1:1000.

General informationThis section has been translated automatically.

Normal values (Normal values vary according to laboratory and detection method. The significance of the measured antibodies must therefore always be related to the respective standard values of the respective laboratory)

negative: < 100 U/ml (no increased antibodies)

Limit range: 100 - 200 U/ml

positive: > 200 U/ml (increased antibodies)

Positive Tg antibodies are found in 50 to 60 % of cases of autoimmunological Hashimoto's thyroiditis and in 10 to 20 % of cases of immunohyperthyroidism (Graves' disease). Low, slightly elevated levels of Tg-AK are sometimes found in healthy individuals.

Contamination material: Serum
