Rheumatic nodules. sharply defined "palisade granuloma" located in the deep dermis and in the adjacent subcutaneous fatty tissue. on overview, map-like areas with homogeneous, eosinophilic degeneration (light red areas) of the collagenous connective tissue (fibrinoid necrosis. peripheral delimitation of the granuloma by dense connective tissue.
Detail: Irregularly configured zones with homogeneous, eosinophilic degeneration of collagenous connective tissue (fibrinoidnecrosis ), surrounding palisade-like arranged histiocytes.
Rheumatic nodules. skin-coloured, smooth, non-painful, movable nodules. Occurs not only at the distal interphalangeal joints, but also ulnar, at elbows or above the ears.
