Parathyroid hormone related peptides

The parathyroid hormone-related peptide has a similar structure to parathyroid hormone (PTH). BWith otherwise completely different disease, 8 of the first 13 amino acids are identical to PTH. PTHrP causes hypercalcemia via the PTH receptor on bone and kidney. PTHrP is physiologically expressed in uterus and placenta during pregnancy and in the mammae during lactation.

Elevated PTHrP concentrations are found in 60 - 80 % of patients with tumor hypercalcemia. The most frequent tumors with elevated PTHrP concentrations are:

• bronchial carcinoma
• Breast carcinoma
• Renal carcinoma
• Bladder Carcinoma
• Oesophageal cardiologist.

The elimination of the parathyroid hormone-related peptide is mainly renal. Restrictions in renal function can lead to increased concentrations.

Indications: Determination only necessary in rare cases. E.g. in haematological systemic diseases with the question of a secondary tumour.

Material: Centrifuge EDTA within 60 min after blood collection, transfer the supernatant plasma into a new tube, freeze at -20°C and ship frozen.
