MTCP1 Gene

MTCP1 (MTCP1 is the acronym for Mature T Cell Proliferation 1) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome Xq28. The encoded protein belongs to the TCL1 family (see TCLA1 gene below). And is apparently involved in leukemogenesis

The MTCP gene has been identified by its involvement in several t(X;14) translocations associated with mature T cell proliferations. This region on the X chromosome has a complex gene structure, with a common promoter and a 5' exon spliced into two different sets of 3' exons encoding two different proteins.

Diseases associated with MTCP1 include prolymphocytic leukemia and T-cell prolymphocytic leukemia. An important paralog of this gene is TCL1A.
