Internalisation

Internalization generally means "taking to oneself" or "taking inwards".

In biology, internalization describes the process by which cells take up certain molecules or receptors from the cell surface into the cell interior. Examples of internalization are:

• Receptor-mediated endocytosis: A molecule (e.g. a hormone or virus) binds to a cell receptor - the cell then takes up the complex.
• Example: When a virus binds to a cell receptor, it is smuggled by the cell into the cell interior - internalized.

In psychology, internalization means internalizing external values, norms or behaviour.
