Genotype or genotype refers to the entirety of an organism's genes in their respective identical or different state forms. A gene map represents the linear arrangement of genes in the genome of an organism. Numerous genodermatoses have now been mapped (assigned to a gene map) and clarified using molecular biology.
The genotype represents the exact genetic information, i.e. the individual set of genes on the chromosomes of an individual. The genotype does not change during the lifetime of an organism.
Identical twins have the same genotype, as they carry the same genome, but never the same phenotype, although they can be very similar.
