Test material and microbiological diagnostics:

Serology: 1-2ml serum

Step-by-step diagnostics:

• Indirect IFT, indir. Hemangglutionation, ELISA with genus-specific total AG
• In the case of pos. failure of the ELISA or Western Blot search test with purified or recombinant species-specific AG for differentiation between E. granulosus and E. multilocularis.
• In case of negative result: detection of AG, mRNA or DNA (PCR) in hydatid fluid (fine needle biopsy)

Serology is only positive in 90% of infections.
