The CCND1 (Cyclin D1) gene, abbreviated CCND1, is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 11q13.3. The protein encoded by this gene belongs to the highly conserved cyclin family, which play an important role during the cell cycle. Cyclins function as regulators of cyclin-dependent kinases (CDK kinases).
Cyclin D1 occupies a central role in the G1-S transition of the cell cycle. Dysregulated cyclin D1 expression plays a crucial pathogenetic role in many different tumors. A dysregulated cyclin D1 expression plays a decisive pathogenetic role in many different tumors. Especially in (cutaneous) B-cell lymphomas(mantle cell lymphoma, multiple myeloma).
