Trichophyton violaceum. culture top (young colonies): grown on selective, modified (cycloheximide, chloramphenicol) cinnamon agar at 25 °C room temperature; very slow growing, initially purple or light- later typical (violaceum) dark violet colonies, usually with white sectors and a ceribriform surface.

Trichophyton violaceum. microscopy of the culture: gnarled mycelium with terminal thickened hyphae and in places compressed lateral branching. microconidia are very rare. chlamydospores both terminal and intercalary. no macroconidia (formation by thiamine addition of the cutur).
