Trichophyton tonsurans. culture topside: grown on selective, modified (cycloheximide, chloramphenicol) cinnamon agar at 25 °C room temperature. Slow to moderate growth of flat colonies with white to yellow or yellow-brown, velvety, slightly granular surface and radial rim in the periphery. Pronounced cerebriform (sulphur yellow in the picture) surface relief in the centre (conically raised) of the colonies.

Trichophyton tonsurans. underside of the culture: medium to dark brown pigment, mahogany in colour, increasing towards the centre; blurred radial border of the colonies.

Trichophyton tonsurans; macroconidia: Rare, clumsy, pleomorphic, colorless, smooth, 2-6 chambers; microconidia: Numerous; especially in the peripheral zone localized, multiform; predominantly elongated to pyriform; stalked attachments on the hyphae mostly botrytis-shaped on the hyphae; chlamydospores: Very numerous; especially in the central part of the thallus localized, heap-shaped loose arrangement, rarely rocket hyphae or spiral hyphae.
