Simon, gustav karl theodor

(¤  2.11.1810, † 1857) pathologist and dermatologist. Born in Berlin, Simon began his medical studies in Berlin in 1829. Licence to practise medicine in 1833. 1844 Habilitation for pathology and dermatology. In 1848 he took over the department for skin diseases and syphilis at the Charité in Berlin. 1848 Publication of his main work "Die Hautkrankheiten durch anatomische Untersuchungen erläutert". In 1857 Simon died of syphilis. Simon is considered the nestor of dermatohistopathology. 1842 First description of Demodex folliculorum, which was initially named after him as "Simonea folliculorum". Simon fell ill with progressive paralysis in 1853 and died in 1857.
