(¤ 1877, † 1970) Dermatologist, active in Freiburg/Br. and Berlin. Dermatological training with Erich Hoffmann/Bonn, among others. In 1915 he was appointed professor at the University Dermatological Clinic in Freiburg/Br. Rost was forced to resign from the National Socialist regime in 1933 at the age of 56 because of "political unreliability" in Freiburg.
G.A. Rost described his departure from the university as follows: "As a strict opponent of the Nazi regime, I was given forced leave of absence and dismissed from the Baden civil service at the beginning of 1933 with a reduced pension. My loyal staff did not fare much better, since they shared my political views." Rost was accused of forbidding students to wear swastikas in lecture. His successor at Freiburg was his former student A. Stühmer, who welcomed the elimination of Jews from the university. Rost moved to Berlin and opened a dermatology practice there. In 1945, the almost seventy-year-old took over the management of the skin department of the Städt. Hospital Berlin-Spandau.
His scientific focus was in the field of venereal diseases (treatment of frambosia with "Alt-Salvarsan"), radiation biology and eczema diseases. The name " late exudative eczematoid" is associated with the name Rost.
