Chronic cutaneous mucinosis (and oral mucosa) with dense, reddened, otherwise asymptomatic papules and plaques.

Face, trunk, oral mucosa.

Clinical featuresThis section has been translated automatically.

There are 2.0 to 10.0 cm large or even larger, single or multiple, red, mostly asymptomatic, moderately indurated, non-scaly plaques, which show a punctured, follicle accentuated surface (peau d`orange). In contrast to the so-called mucinosis follicularis or keratosis pilaris, the follicular structure does not appear by itself, but secondary to the deposition of mucin into the interfollicular tissue.

Remark: The clinical description of this clinical picture is similar to the REM syndrome, which was highlighted again 14 years later by Gerd-Klaus Steigleder. It is discussed whether both terms are not synonymous terms for the same entity.
