Phlda1

Acronym for "pleckstrin homology-like domain family A member 1".

PHLDA1 is a cytoplasmic protein found in a number of benign and malignant tumors, including colon tumors. PHLDA1 is expressed in hair follicles of embryonic skin, in melanocytic nevi, in "early" malignant melanomas, but not in normal melanocytes. In malignant melanoma, PHLDA1 expression is gradually downregulated during tumor progression and then correlates with increasing dysregulation of growth as well as increasing resistance to apoptosis. Furthermore, PHLDA1 is expressed in trichoepithelioma but not in basal cell carcinoma and Pinkus tumor. The coding PHLDA1 gene is located on chromosome 12q15 and is the human homologue of the murine TDAG51 (T-cell death associated gene 51) gene, which is important in T-cell apoptosis.
