Nödl, Fritz

(¤ 1912, † 1994) Dermatologist, last worked in Homburg/Saar at the University of Saarland. Born in Brüx, Sudetenland. Fritz Nödl received his first dermatological training in Prague and later in Breslau under Heinrich A. Gottron, who had a decisive influence on his future career. During the Second World War, Nödl served as a staff physician in the III Battalion / Paratrooper Regiment in North Africa, among other places.

In 1947, he became senior physician at the University Dermatology Clinic in Göttingen under Horst-Günther Bode.

This led to a fruitful collaboration with the pathologist Friedrich Feyrter.

Nödl habilitated in Göttingen in 1950 with a thesis on Kaposi's disease.

In 1960, he succeeded Rudolf Strempel as full professor at the University Dermatology Clinic in Homburg/Saar. From 1969 to 1970, Nödl was Dean.

Fritz Nödl was one of the outstanding German dermatohistologists of his time and a gifted clinical diagnostician. In addition to his scientific work on basal cell carcinoma and Kaposi's sarcoma, he worked on topics such as neurogenic tumors, the effects of radiation on the skin, malignant melanoma and its type of metastasis, and vascular tumors. In 1980, Nödl's student Hans-Otto Zaun became his successor in Homburg/Saar. Another Nödl student, Peter Altmeyer, became dermatology professor at the Ruhr University in Bochum in 1985.
