Rhodotorula rubra. cultivar: grown on non-selective chimney agar; fast growth (2-4 days; smooth, pink to coral-coloured colonies with a waxy to shiny, firm aspect; lobed margins of the sharply defined colonies.
Rhodotorula mucilaginosa. underside of culture: dark orange to red colour; sharp border of smooth colonies with lobed edges.
Rhodotorula mucilaginosa: microscopy of the culture: numerous spores (yeast phase); slightly heterogeneous picture due to different size of the spores; blastospore formation in places.
