Microsporum canis. Cultivation on selective, modified (cycloheximide, chloramphenicol) cinnamon agar at 25 °C. Fast growing (already after 7 days mycelium of 1 cm ø), flat colonies with white to yellow ("canary yellow"), velvety, centrally fluffy surface and fine, yellowish peripheral radiating ring. In older cultivations often brownish, granular decayed colonies predominate.

Microsporum canis. cultural underside: canary yellow-orange colour.

Microsporum canis. detail magnification: Typical spindle-shaped, multi-chambered macroconidia with spiny (especially at the two poles), rough-walled shell.

Microsporum canis, typical microscopy of a granular culture: many fine long hyphae and macroconidia.
