School education in Bad Kreuznach/Nahe, medical studies in Berlin and Bonn. 1992-1925 dermatological training with Friedrich Bering in Essen. 1925 change to Erich Hoffmann in Bonn. 1926 habilitation there. In 1926 he moved to Paul Linser in Tübigen as senior physician, where he was appointed as an associate professor in 1930. 1931 Call to the then municipal dermatology clinic in Essen, as a successor to his first dermatology teacher Friedrich Bering. As an unbending opponent of the National Socialist regime, he was sentenced to prison in 1933.
