Melanoma primary dermal C43.9

Variant of a malignant melanoma, which is primarily limited to the dermis and/or subcutis and histologically simulates a cutaneous metastasis.

Occurring at a higher age (around 70 years; range: 21-85 years). No sex preference.

Tumour masses located in the dermis, often well definable with the classic cytological features of malignant melanoma. Characteristic are the missing relationships to epidermal (junctional activity) or follicular structures. Furthermore, there is always a lack of evidence of a previously existing melanocytic nevus.

Compared to nodular malignant melanomas of the same thickness, the prognosis is significantly better. There is a 92% survival rate after about 4 years.
