Lutz, wilhelm

(¤ 4.11.1888, † 1958) Swiss dermatologist. He received his dermatological training from Joseph Jadassohn, Bruno Bloch and Felix Lewandowsky, whom he succeeded in 1921 at the University Dermatology Clinic in Basel. Lutz initially managed the clinic on a provisional basis. 1922 Elected associate professor for dermatology and venereology. The appointment to full professor, however, did not take place until 15 years later in 1937. 1922 First description of the epidermodysplasia verruciformis named after Lutz and Lewandowsky. 1953 together with Guido Miescher (1955 description of the histological criteria) pioneering description of the elastosis perforans serpiginosa named after Lutz and Miescher Lutz resigned from his office in October 1956; he died in 1958 of heart disease. His successor was Rudolf Schuppli.
