Heinz Flegel was born on 26.10.1923 in Kiel, where he also attended school. After studying in Tübingen and Strasbourg, he completed his studies in 1948. 1948 doctorate in medicine. Title of thesis: Impetigo herpetiformis, viewed in the light of allergic events. 1948-1950 Compulsory assistant at the Pathological Institute, from 1950 at the Clinic for Internal Medicine of the University of Jena. 1950-1959 assistant physician, 1953 specialist for skin and venereal diseases. From 1955 senior physician. 1956 Habilitation: Title of thesis: On the specificity of some tuberculoid-granulomatous skin affections. From 1956 lecturer at the Dermatological Clinic of the University of Jena. 1958-1959 provisional director of the University Dermatological Clinic Jena. 1959 Heinz Flegel was appointed professor of skin and venereal diseases and director of the University Dermatological Clinic Rostock. 1988 retirement.
Heinz Flegel passed away in Potsdam on Oct. 28, 2017, 2 days after his 94th birthday. Dermatologically, the name "Flegel" remains in memory with the clinical picture of hyperkeratosis lenticularis perstans named after him.
