Lingua plicata and macroglossia in patients with systemic AL-type amyloidosis.

Lingua plicata: idiopathic form, no underlying disease known.

Lingua plicata: red, smooth tongue with congenital, asymptomatic, increased longitudinal furrow of the tongue surface, especially in the area of the anterior two thirds of the tongue; the illustrated finding shows the partial manifestation of a 41-year-old man with Melkersson-Rosenthal syndrome.

Lingua plicata: pronounced longitudinal and transversal furrow of the tongue surface, especially in the area of the middle third of the tongue. The depicted finding shows the partial manifestation of a lichen planus exanthematicus. Changes of the lichen palnus are mainly visible at the tip of the tongue, the edges of the tongue and the corners of the mouth.

Lingua plicata with pronounced exfoliatio areata linguae (not infrequently occurring comorbidity ).

Lingua plicata: granular coating of the tongue in the central parts of the tongue, lingua plicata with increased bizarre transverse furrows.
