Lorenz Gleich (1798 - 1865) was a Bavarian military doctor who coined the term "natural healing" in 1839. Gleich understood the term "naturopathy" as a collective term for the natural instinct theory ("instinctively correct behaviour of man in dealing with health and illness") and, to a large extent, natural dietetics ("natural life form guided by instinct") within the naturopathic method. Lorenz Gleich was regarded as a controversial representative of a medicine hostile naturopathy.
