(¤ 19.04.1820, † 1896) Georg Richard Lewin was born in Sondershausen (Thuringia). He attended grammar schools in Sondershausen, Magdeburg and Mühlhausen. 1841 A-levels. In the same year he began to study medicine in Halle, from 1843 in Berlin. Here pupils of Johannes Müller. 1845 doctorate. Study trips to Vienna, Würzburg and Paris. At first settlement as a practical. Doctor in Berlin. 1862 habilitation on laryngeal diseases at Berlin University. 1863, as successor to v. Baerensprung, appointment as provisional director of the clinic for syphilis and skin diseases at the Charité. 1865 Elected as Conducting Doctor. On 28.3. 1868 appointment as an extraordinary professor. 1884 the dermatological clinic was separated from the syphilis clinic. Lewin's research areas were syphilis, leukoderm, erythema exsudativum multiforme and scleroderma. One of his students was Oskar Lassar, who is still known by name today. Other students were Julius Heller (1864-1931) and Gustav Behrend (1847-1925).
