Comedo: multiple, chronically stationary, 0.5-1 mm large, firm, asymptomatic, grey, rough follicular papules with enlarged follicles, localized in the nasolabial fold; sebaceous content can be expressed on pressure.
Comedones: encircled a group of shotgun-like comedones of different sizes; arrow horizontal points to a capillary hemangioma, arrow vertical to a sebaceous gland hyperplasia (characteristic of the surface gloss with a central porus (magnification) and the broad-based attachment).
Comedones in dark skin.
Comedo:multiple, chronically stationary, 0.5-1 mm large, firm, asymptomatic, grey, rough follicular papules with enlarged follicles, localized in the nasolabial fold; sebaceous content can be expressed on pressure.
Comedo(reflected light microscopy): Blackhead comedo on the back; black horn plug surrounded by a blue-black wall (horn material translucent from depth).
Comedone-like keratosis follicularis (see there): in contrast to classical comedones, keratosis follicularis lacks sebaceous gland hyperplasia ; keratosis follicularis is a follicular, "dry horn graft" which does not occur in the seborrhoeic zones but mainly on the side of the extremities.
Comedo: dilated, sinusoidal twisted infundibulum with irregularly thick, ortho- or parakeratotic cornified squamous epithelium. In the center of the comedo loosely layered, ortho- or parakeratotic corneal masses, interspersed with numerous bacterial turf and pityrosporon spores (not clearly identifiable in the overview). Lower left atrophic hair follicle. Clear dermal fibrosis.
